Tanzania and Egypt are seeking to deepen defence and security cooperation, with the two countries reviewing areas of mutual interest during talks between their senior defence officials.
Tanzania’s Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr Rhimo Nyansaho, held talks with Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Military Production and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, in El Alamein on Thursday.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two defence ministries, which have maintained longstanding relations, as well as discussing wider security matters affecting the two countries.
The talks also reviewed the implementation of issues discussed during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s visit to Tanzania on July 18, 2026.
President el-Sisi held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the visit, with the two leaders discussing ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Tanzania and Egypt.
According to a statement issued on the meeting, Dr Nyansaho and Lt Gen Zaher emphasised the importance of expanding defence and military cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
The engagement comes as Tanzania seeks to strengthen international partnerships in the defence sector while improving cooperation in areas including military expertise, technology and security.
During his visit to Egypt, Dr Nyansaho also attended the El Alamein International Airshow and Advanced Aerospace Technologies Exhibition (EIAS), which brought together defence ministers, military chiefs, government officials, industry representatives, academics and aerospace experts from more than 60 countries.
The exhibition provided Tanzania with an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience in defence and aerospace technology, while exploring strategic partnerships with international stakeholders.
Tanzania’s participation also comes at a time when advances in aerospace and defence technology are increasingly shaping military preparedness and international security cooperation.
