Tanzania is seeking to attract more Japanese investment and expand private-sector partnerships as the two countries work to deepen economic ties.
The push was highlighted during talks between Minister of State in the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, and Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr Komori Takuo, in Tokyo.
The discussions focused on improving conditions for Japanese businesses, strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and supporting companies already operating in Tanzania to expand their activities.
Prof Mkumbo said Tanzania was interested in moving beyond government-to-government relations by increasing direct engagement between businesses in the two countries.
The talks were held during a Tanzania Investment Mission to Japan led by Prof Mkumbo, aimed at presenting investment opportunities in Tanzania and linking Japanese investors with Tanzanian businesses.
The mission was organised by the Embassy of Tanzania in Japan in collaboration with the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) and Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF).
The delegation is engaging the Japanese Government, businesses and other partners on opportunities for Japanese capital, technology and expertise to support Tanzania’s economic transformation.
The meeting with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is part of efforts to deepen Tanzania-Japan relations through increased trade, investment and private-sector cooperation.
