The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has been ranked second among 306 public service and commercial entities for excellence in financial management, in a recognition that puts the spotlight on the utility’s handling of public resources.

Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi presented the award to TANESCO on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during the Chairpersons of Boards and Chief Executive Officers Forum in Arusha.

TANESCO Board Chairman Plasduce Mbossa received the award on behalf of the utility.

The recognition, under the Best Financial Management Performance – Commercial Entities category, acknowledges institutions that demonstrate strong performance in managing finances and resources.

The assessment covers areas including expenditure control, revenue collection, resource management and financial accountability.

For TANESCO, the award comes as the utility continues to play a central role in Tanzania’s electricity sector, making financial discipline an important part of efforts to sustain and improve service delivery.

Effective management of the utility’s finances is also critical given the scale of resources required to maintain electricity infrastructure, expand access and improve reliability for households and businesses.

The award was presented as part of broader efforts to recognise public institutions demonstrating strong performance in financial management and accountability.

The forum brought together chairpersons of boards and chief executive officers of public institutions to review performance and governance, with financial management forming part of the areas used to assess institutional performance.
