The police have visited and offered financial support to senior Star TV journalist Makunga Peter Makunga as part of efforts to strengthen relations between law enforcement and the community.
Bukombe District Police Commander SSP Harun Kasubi led officers and other police personnel to Makunga’s residence on September 1, 2026, where they expressed solidarity with the journalist during a difficult period.
The police also provided financial assistance to help him meet some of the challenges he is currently facing.
SSP Kasubi said the gesture reflected the importance of building a culture of compassion, caring and mutual support within communities, particularly for people going through difficult circumstances.
He said the visit was also part of efforts to put the Community Policing approach into practice by bringing the police closer to citizens and strengthening communication and cooperation.
“Community policing is not only about security. It is also about building trust, maintaining communication and standing with members of the community when they need support,” SSP Kasubi said.
He emphasised that effective cooperation between the police and the public remains critical to maintaining peace, stability and security.
SSP Kasubi urged citizens to continue working with the police by sharing information and supporting initiatives aimed at improving safety and community wellbeing.
The visit highlights the broader role of community engagement in strengthening public confidence in law enforcement and fostering stronger bonds between the police and the people they serve.
