GEITA: Miners in Tanzania’s Lake Zone are gaining easier access to mining equipment and spare parts as local supplier MINETEC expands its reach to gold-producing areas.
The company is showcasing a range of equipment at the ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition in Geita, targeting miners who require machinery and spare parts to support their operations.
MINETEC Marketing Manager Khalid Adinan Ajali said the company was using the exhibition to demonstrate some of the equipment available to miners, including compressors, water pumps, jackhammers, excavators and spare parts.
“Here we have diesel and electric compressors, water pumps, jackhammers, boom diggers, JCB hydraulic excavators and spare parts,” Mr Ajali said.
The availability of such equipment locally could reduce the difficulties faced by miners in sourcing machinery and replacement parts, particularly in areas where mining is a major economic activity.
MINETEC Assistant Marketing Manager Irene Munna said the company supplies equipment to several mining areas, including Geita, Mwanza and Buhemba in Mara Region, as well as Dodoma.
“We reach gold miners in Geita, Mwanza, Musoma in Mara, including Buhemba, and even Dodoma,” Ms Munna said.
The company’s participation comes as the government seeks to promote the use of appropriate technology and increase value from the country’s mineral resources.
Visiting the MINETEC stand, the exhibition’s guest of honour, Peter Louis Bura, said the equipment on display could help miners access machinery needed for their daily operations.
Mr Bura singled out a water pump displayed at the stand, saying it was priced at TZS1.6 million.
The pump, identified as model QX12.5-60-5.5, has a 7.5-horsepower capacity and a pumping head of up to 60 metres.
“I was personally impressed by the water pump priced at TZS1.6 million,” Mr Bura said.
The ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition is being held at the Dkt Samia Suluhu Hassan grounds in Geita under the theme: “Minerals Are Wealth: Let Us Take Collective Responsibility to Achieve Vision 2050.”
