The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has begun a three-day inspection of Tanzania’s infrastructure and support services as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
The CAF delegation began its assessment in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with a meeting with Tanzania’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) to review the country’s preparations and identify areas requiring greater attention ahead of the tournament.
The inspection then moved to key facilities, including sports infrastructure and health services, as CAF assessed Tanzania’s readiness to meet the operational demands of hosting Africa’s biggest national football tournament.
Health and emergency medical capacity featured prominently during the first day of the assessment. The delegation visited Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), where it reviewed the hospital’s services and specialised facilities, including the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) and the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI).
The assessment is aimed at determining whether Tanzania’s medical infrastructure and emergency response capacity can adequately support players, officials, supporters and other stakeholders during AFCON 2027.
The CAF team comprises specialists from several areas involved in tournament delivery, including stadium infrastructure, medical services, transport and logistics, accommodation and security.
Their assessment is expected to provide an important benchmark for Tanzania as it works to ensure that venues and supporting services meet CAF standards before the tournament.
The delegation is scheduled to travel to Zanzibar on Wednesday, September 2, to continue inspecting infrastructure and services linked to the country’s AFCON preparations.
AFCON 2027 will be jointly staged by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, bringing the continent’s premier national football competition to East Africa in a landmark three-country hosting arrangement.
