The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) has issued a final 90-day notice to deregister 5,277 companies from the official company register after they failed to demonstrate that they were still conducting business.

The move could affect companies that remain on the register but are no longer active, with BRELA urging directors, shareholders and company secretaries to act before the deadline if their businesses are still operating.

BRELA said the notice was issued under Section 403(3) of the Companies Act, Chapter 212, following two earlier notices published in 2022.

The first notice was issued on June 2, 2022, followed by a second on July 13, 2022, requiring the affected companies to show that they were continuing to operate.

“Pursuant to these notices, the companies listed were required to prove that they were continuing to conduct business,” BRELA said in a public notice issued in Dar es Salaam on September 28.

The agency said the companies had since been issued with a final notice of intention to strike them off the register.

The final notice was published in Government Gazette No. 38 of September 18, 2026, giving the affected companies 90 days from the date of the notice to submit objections to BRELA.

BRELA warned that where no objection is submitted within the 90-day period, the companies will proceed to the next steps for removal from the register.

The agency called on directors, shareholders and company secretaries of the affected firms to take immediate action within the period provided if they intend to challenge the deregistration.

The list of companies facing deregistration can be obtained through Government Gazette No. 38 of September 18, 2026, and through BRELA's official website.

The notice was issued by BRELA's Corporate Compliance and Public Relations Division.
