The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has emerged second among public institutions at the Nane Nane agricultural exhibition in the Eastern Lake Zone, highlighting its efforts to promote fair trade through accurate measurements.
The exhibition, which brought together participants from Mara, Simiyu and Shinyanga regions, was held at the Nyakabindi grounds in Simiyu and concluded with WMA receiving a certificate and trophy for its performance.
The award was presented by the Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Dr Leonard Akwilapo, who was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.
WMA Simiyu Regional Manager Happy Titi said the recognition reflected the agency’s continued efforts to educate farmers, livestock keepers and traders on the importance of using accurate and certified weighing equipment.
“This victory gives us greater motivation to continue educating communities in the Eastern Lake Zone on accurate measurements so as to increase productivity and minimise losses in business,” Ms Titi said.
During the exhibition, WMA experts provided education on the proper use of weighing and measuring instruments in agricultural and livestock activities.
They also emphasised the importance of using verified weighing scales when buying and selling produce and livestock.
Accurate measurements are particularly important to farmers and small-scale traders, as unreliable weighing equipment can affect the amount paid for agricultural produce and other commodities.
Ms Titi thanked residents from the three regions for visiting the WMA stand and participating in the agency’s public education activities.
She said WMA would continue strengthening public awareness and improving its services to ensure that accurate measurements become an integral part of commercial transactions.
The Nane Nane exhibitions provide government institutions and other stakeholders with an opportunity to engage directly with farmers, traders and consumers, while promoting technologies and services aimed at improving productivity and incomes.
