The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has been recognised as one of Africa’s leading infrastructure development institutions, reflecting the significant progress it has made in expanding and improving road networks across the country since its establishment in 2017.

The remarks were made by the President of the Tanzania Government Attorneys Association, Boniventure Mwambaja, during a visit to TARURA’s exhibition pavilion at the 49th National Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition currently taking place at the Dr. John Malecela Grounds in Dodoma.

Speaking after receiving a briefing on the agency’s operations and achievements, Mwambaja said TARURA had recorded notable success in implementing road construction and maintenance projects in both rural and urban areas, contributing to improved transport services and supporting socio-economic development.

He noted that the agency had demonstrated strong performance in delivering its mandate and had also invested in strengthening the capacity of its workforce responsible for overseeing infrastructure projects across the country.

“It is evident that TARURA has made significant progress in road construction and maintenance since its establishment. The agency has also succeeded in building the capacity of its staff, a development reflected in the positive feedback it continues to receive from citizens,” Mwambaja said.

He added that the expansion of all-weather road networks in different parts of the country, coupled with the agency’s ability to respond quickly to infrastructure challenges in difficult terrains, underscored its commitment to serving the public and supporting national development.

Since its formation, TARURA has played a key role in improving accessibility to rural communities, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and connecting economic activities to markets and essential services.

The agency is among institutions participating in this year’s Nane Nane Exhibition, held under the theme, “Know Your Market; Increase Productivity to Realise Vision 2050.”

Through its exhibition, TARURA is providing information on its mandate, ongoing projects, achievements and services aimed at strengthening rural and urban road infrastructure across Tanzania.
