DODOMA, Tanzania — Tanzania’s 400-kilovolt Chalinze–Dodoma electricity transmission project is entering its final stage, with the contractor set to resume cable-pulling works in the Kikombo and Mkonze areas of Dodoma from Tuesday.
The second phase of the cable-pulling exercise will run from Aug. 11 to 17, 2026, as part of efforts to complete the transmission line, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) said.
The project, which is expected to be completed on Aug. 21, is intended to strengthen the country’s electricity transmission network and improve the reliability and quality of power supply.
TANESCO Acting Director of Communications and Customer Services, Irene Gowelle, said the second phase follows the successful completion of the first phase of cable pulling between Chalinze and Mkambarani in Morogoro.
She said the works would require some parts of the country to receive electricity according to special schedules to allow the contractor to safely carry out the work.
The affected areas are in the Central, Western, Northern, Southwestern and Lake zones, while Morogoro and Tanga will not be affected, she said.
According to TANESCO, areas covered by the affected zones will experience scheduled power interruptions between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., depending on the work schedule.
“This is the second phase of the cable-pulling exercise in the Kikombo and Mkonze areas of Dodoma. I want to assure the public that we will continue publishing electricity supply schedules through our social media platforms to enable people to plan their activities according to the schedules,” Gowelle said.
The temporary interruptions are necessary to provide the contractor with a safe working environment as the project moves towards completion.
The Chalinze–Dodoma transmission line is one of Tanzania’s major electricity infrastructure projects and is expected to increase the capacity and resilience of the national transmission system once completed.
