Tanzania and Senegal are seeking to expand cooperation in the energy sector as the two countries explore ways to share expertise, attract investment and accelerate the development of strategic projects.
The move follows talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Energy, Mr Deogratius Ndejembi, and Senegal’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr Elhadji Abdourahmane Diouf, held at the Ministry of Energy offices in Dar es Salaam on August 6, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties in the energy industry, with discussions centred on areas that could improve sector performance and support economic growth in both countries.
Among the issues discussed were the exchange of technical knowledge, training of energy professionals, adoption of technology in oil and gas exploration and production, as well as cooperation in implementing major energy projects.
The two ministers emphasised the need for closer collaboration to unlock investment opportunities, enhance efficiency and ensure the energy sector contributes more significantly to national development.
The partnership comes at a time when African countries are increasingly looking to maximise the value of their natural resources through technology transfer, skills development and regional cooperation.
The discussions were also attended by the Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary responsible for Oil and Gas, Dr James Mataragio.
