Tanzania and Canada are exploring opportunities to deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation, with agriculture, critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure and public-private partnerships (PPPs) identified as key areas for expanded engagement.
The discussions took place when Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Canada, Joseph E. Sokoine, paid a courtesy call on Canadian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and the Secretary of State for International Development, Yasir Naqvi (MP).
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and Canada while exploring practical measures to strengthen economic relations.
Mr Sokoine highlighted Tanzania’s priority sectors for Canadian investors, pointing to the country’s opportunities in agriculture, critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure and PPPs.
He also presented Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, which sets out the country’s long-term development priorities, while emphasising the Government’s efforts to create a favourable environment for foreign investors and businesses.
The talks also focused on improving market access for Tanzanian products in Canada, with both sides discussing the potential for greater collaboration through the Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO Canada).
Beyond trade and investment, the two officials discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in skills development and education, as well as initiatives aimed at promoting investment and strengthening business-to-business linkages.
Mr Naqvi expressed readiness to support Tanzania’s economic diplomacy efforts by facilitating engagement with relevant Canadian institutions, businesses and other stakeholders.
The discussions come as Tanzania seeks to attract more investment into productive sectors while expanding markets for locally produced goods and strengthening international economic partnerships.
For Canada, deeper engagement with Tanzania offers opportunities to build commercial links in sectors aligned with global priorities, including clean energy, critical minerals, sustainable infrastructure and skills development.
The meeting concluded in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, innovation and sustainable economic development for the mutual benefit of Tanzania and Canada.
