Tanzania’s Simba SC will launch their 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign against Malawi champions Mighty Wanderers FC after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the preliminary-round draw in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
The Tanzanian giants were paired with Mighty Wanderers in the first preliminary round and will play a two-legged home-and-away tie, with the aggregate winner advancing to the second preliminary round of Africa’s premier club competition.
If Simba progress, they will face either Angola’s 15 de Agosto or Comoros side Fomboni FC in the next stage as they continue their bid to secure a place in the lucrative group phase.
The draw offers the Msimbazi-based club a promising pathway as they seek a return to the group stage and another strong run in continental football.
Simba have established themselves as one of East Africa’s leading clubs in recent years, reaching the latter stages of CAF competitions and consistently challenging some of the continent’s top sides.
With preparations for the new season already underway, the Reds of Msimbazi will be keen to make a strong start against the Malawian champions and build momentum in their pursuit of continental success.
Simba are among Tanzania’s representatives in this season’s CAF Champions League alongside rivals Young Africans SC (Yanga), with fans hoping the country’s clubs can once again make a significant impact on the African stage.
The CAF Champions League remains the most prestigious club competition in African football, and qualification for the group stage is expected to be a key target for Simba as they look to strengthen their reputation among the continent’s elite teams.
