President Samia Suluhu Hassan has recognised the contribution of the Ministry of Energy and its institutions to efforts to accelerate Tanzania’s transition to clean cooking energy.
The ministry and its affiliated institutions were honoured with an award for their role in supporting the Clean Cooking Energy Dialogue held in Kizimkazi, South Unguja, on August 11, 2026.
The award was presented by President Samia on the night of August 11 and received on behalf of the ministry and its institutions by Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba.
The recognition comes as Tanzania steps up efforts to increase access to cooking energy that is safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable, particularly for households and institutions.
The Kizimkazi dialogue brought together government officials, private-sector representatives, development partners, financial institutions, technology providers, researchers and civil society organisations to discuss practical ways of expanding the use of clean cooking solutions.
The forum was organised by the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF), in collaboration with various stakeholders, to build momentum around clean cooking and encourage stronger action across the sector.
A key focus of the discussions was the need to strengthen partnerships between the government and private sector while mobilising financing and technology needed to make clean cooking solutions more accessible to ordinary citizens.
For many Tanzanian households, the cost and availability of cooking energy remain important considerations.
Stakeholders at the dialogue therefore stressed the need for solutions that are not only cleaner but also affordable and readily available.
The government has continued to call for greater cooperation among public institutions, businesses, development partners, financial institutions and other stakeholders to accelerate the clean cooking transition.
The award to the Energy Ministry and its institutions highlights their contribution to creating a platform where different players can exchange ideas and develop practical measures to expand clean cooking access.
The dialogue is expected to contribute to wider efforts to turn Tanzania’s clean cooking ambitions into tangible action, with greater access to safer and more affordable cooking options for households, schools, health facilities and other institutions.
