The Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) is using the 32nd Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma to raise public awareness about its role in securing Tanzania's petroleum supply and ensuring transparency in the importation process.
Speaking at the exhibition grounds in Nzuguni, PBPA Oil Quality Officer Datson Mwantuke said the agency is engaging visitors on its core responsibilities, including coordinating the bulk procurement and receipt of petroleum products, registering Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), verifying companies seeking to distribute petroleum products in the country, and overseeing petroleum import tenders.
He said the exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to better understand how the agency supports the country's energy sector and contributes to maintaining a reliable supply of fuel.
A key attraction at the PBPA pavilion is the demonstration of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, a modern digital platform that enables real-time monitoring of petroleum products entering Tanzania through the ports of Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara.
According to Mwantuke, the system enhances transparency and accountability by allowing authorities to track fuel volumes and movements across the supply chain, helping to strengthen oversight and improve operational efficiency.
He noted that PBPA is also educating visitors on the Bulk Procurement System (BPS), which was introduced to streamline petroleum imports, improve supply reliability, enhance transparency in procurement, and bolster the country's energy security.
"The system has played a significant role in ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products while supporting greater efficiency and accountability in the importation process," he said.
Mwantuke added that participation in Nanenane provides the agency with an opportunity to interact directly with citizens and stakeholders, receive feedback, and clarify issues related to its services and operations.
PBPA has encouraged members of the public attending the exhibition to visit its pavilion and learn more about the agency's mandate and its contribution to ensuring a secure, efficient and sustainable supply of petroleum products across Tanzania.
