Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) is strengthening its emergency response systems and preparedness against disease outbreaks, including Ebola, through a joint supervision and capacity-building exercise involving key health stakeholders.
The initiative, conducted on August 6, 2026, was led by the Ministry of Health through the Emergency and Disaster Management Department in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) and CIHEB Tanzania under the Global Health Security Project.
The exercise brought together specialists from KCMC’s Emergency Medicine Department (EMD), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ambulance services and other emergency response units to assess and improve the hospital’s capacity to handle accidents, critical patients and public health emergencies.
The team carried out practical training sessions at various service points, reviewed emergency care systems and provided technical support aimed at improving the speed, safety and quality of healthcare services delivered to patients.
The assessment also focused on identifying gaps in emergency response, sharing professional experiences and developing measures to improve coordination among healthcare teams involved in handling critical cases.
A key area of focus was strengthening infection prevention and control measures, ensuring proper use of medical equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as enhancing preparedness for Ebola and other infectious disease outbreaks.
The collaboration is part of ongoing national efforts to improve Tanzania’s health security by equipping healthcare facilities with stronger emergency response mechanisms and skilled personnel capable of managing health threats effectively.
Through such initiatives, authorities aim to ensure referral hospitals remain prepared to provide timely and quality care during emergencies while protecting both patients and healthcare workers.
