Police in Coast Region are holding a 16-year-old girl in connection with the death of her mother following an alleged dispute after she was stopped from attending a friend’s birthday celebration in Msoga Village, Chalinze District.
The suspect, identified as Rahma Musa Tito, is accused of causing the death of her mother, Hadija Hemedi Shaha, 51, a farmer who had a physical disability affecting both legs.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of July 28, 2026, at around 11pm after Hadija reportedly prevented her daughter from attending a birthday party near Msoga Hospital.
Police said an argument allegedly followed, during which the teenager is accused of attacking her mother and causing serious head injuries using a sharp object.
The matter came to light the following morning, July 29, 2026, when a construction worker arrived at the home to follow up on payment and collect a bag of cement.
After knocking on the door, the worker was reportedly met by the suspect before discovering Hadija lying on the floor with injuries.
The Pwani Regional Police Command said the teenager remains in custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and guide the next legal steps.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of strengthening family communication, parental guidance and community support mechanisms in addressing conflicts involving young people.
