Tanzania is seeking to deepen cooperation with France's film industry as part of broader efforts to attract investment, improve production standards and expand international opportunities for the country's creative economy.
The move emerged during talks between Tanzania's Ambassador to France, Saidi Othman Yakubu, and Tanzania Film Board (TFB) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Gervais Kasiga, at the Tanzanian Embassy in Paris.
The discussions focused on establishing long-term partnerships between the Tanzania Film Board and French film institutions, with both sides exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange, investment promotion and collaboration in film production.
The officials also discussed increasing the participation of Tanzanian filmmakers in international film festivals, exhibitions and industry forums in France and Tanzania, a strategy expected to raise the country's profile as an emerging destination for film production and creative content in Africa.
Ambassador Yakubu said the embassy would continue to play a facilitative role in connecting creative industry stakeholders from the two countries to strengthen business partnerships, attract investment and create new export markets for Tanzanian films.
"The embassy will continue serving as a bridge between Tanzanian and French creative industry stakeholders to promote collaboration that benefits both countries while unlocking new opportunities for our filmmakers," he said.
Dr Kasiga said the Tanzania Film Board was committed to expanding international partnerships to enhance the quality, competitiveness and commercial potential of the country's film sector.
He noted that cooperation with French institutions would open new avenues for professional training, technology transfer, joint film productions and wider access to international markets for Tanzanian filmmakers.
The initiative comes as Tanzania intensifies efforts to position the creative and cultural industries as an important contributor to economic growth, employment and tourism.
Closer collaboration with established global film markets is expected to strengthen local production capacity while exposing Tanzanian filmmakers to international standards, financing opportunities and wider audiences.
