Polisi Tanzania have secured promotion to the 2026/27 NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League after overcoming Tanzania Prisons 4-1 on aggregate in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
The Arusha-based side booked their return to the top flight despite losing 1-0 to Tanzania Prisons in the second leg at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya. Their emphatic 4-0 victory in the first leg proved decisive, giving them an unassailable aggregate advantage.
Tanzania Prisons entered the return fixture needing a remarkable comeback to preserve their Premier League status, but their narrow victory was not enough to overturn the heavy first-leg deficit.
The outcome confirms Polisi Tanzania's return to the Premier League after a spell in the Championship, while Tanzania Prisons will compete in the second-tier Championship in the 2026/27 season following relegation.
Polisi Tanzania become the 16th and final team to qualify for the 2026/27 NBC Tanzania Mainland Premier League, which is scheduled to kick off on August 14.
Having previously featured in Tanzania's top-flight competition, Polisi Tanzania will now look to re-establish themselves among the country's elite clubs, while Tanzania Prisons face the challenge of rebuilding in the Championship with hopes of an immediate return.
