France forward Kylian Mbappé has strengthened his place among football's all-time greats after winning the Golden Boot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, finishing as the tournament's top scorer with 10 goals.
The 27-year-old reached the milestone by scoring twice in France's entertaining 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place play-off, equalling the 10-goal tally set by Germany legend Gerd Müller at the 1970 World Cup.
Mbappé also became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to win the Golden Boot in consecutive editions, having claimed the award at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with eight goals.
His latest achievement further underlined his remarkable consistency on football's biggest stage. Mbappé has now scored 22 goals in 22 World Cup appearances, surpassing Lionel Messi's career tally of 21 goals in 33 World Cup matches to become the competition's all-time leading scorer.
Although France failed to retain the title, Mbappé's performances stood out throughout the tournament, reaffirming his reputation as one of the game's most prolific forwards.
Spain dominated the individual awards after lifting the World Cup title. Captain Rodri was named the tournament's best player and received the Golden Ball, while goalkeeper Unai Simón won the Golden Glove after keeping six clean sheets. Defender Pau Cubarsí was recognised as the FIFA Young Player of the Tournament.
France's campaign ended without silverware, but Mbappé's record-breaking performances ensured he remained one of the defining players of the 2026 World Cup and added another remarkable chapter to his international career.
