Simba SC assistant coach Selemani Matola has commended his players for returning to pre-season training in excellent physical condition, saying their commitment to off-season fitness programmes has given the technical bench a strong foundation ahead of a busy campaign.
The Tanzanian giants have stepped up preparations for the 2026/27 NBC Premier League season and the CECAFA Kagame Cup, which gets underway in Rwanda on July 24.
Matola said the coaching staff had been encouraged by the players' attitude and fitness levels after they underwent initial assessments upon reporting to camp.
"The players have returned in good condition, which shows they took the off-season programme seriously. That is a positive start for us as we prepare for the challenges ahead," he said.
He noted that Simba had only a limited period to prepare following last season's Federation Cup final in Gombani, Pemba, making the players' readiness even more important.
"When we released the squad for the break, every player received an individual training programme. We are pleased that most of them followed it well. We have now begun the next phase of our preparations as we build towards the competitions awaiting us," Matola added.
The former Simba captain also praised the club's new recruits, including midfielder Nashon, saying they had adapted quickly to the team's playing environment and integrated seamlessly into the squad.
"Our new players have settled in very well. They are adapting quickly, working hard in training and already look comfortable within the group," he said.
Nashon, meanwhile, described his move to Simba as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition and said he was eager to contribute to the club's success.
"Joining Simba is a dream come true for me. I have wanted this opportunity for a long time, and I thank the club for believing in me," he said.
"I already feel at home because my teammates and the technical staff have welcomed me warmly. Our focus now is on preparing well for every competition and doing everything possible to deliver success for the club and our supporters."
