The government has stepped up efforts to improve urban infrastructure in Dar es Salaam after Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, launched construction equipment worth more than TZS 1.58 billion in Ubungo District.
The equipment, unveiled on July 19, 2026, is expected to strengthen road maintenance and rehabilitation works, addressing long-standing challenges faced by residents, particularly during the rainy season when poor road conditions disrupt movement and economic activities.
Speaking during the launch, Prof. Kabudi said the investment reflects the government’s commitment to delivering practical solutions to challenges affecting citizens, directing authorities in Ubungo to ensure the equipment is used effectively and maintained properly.
“Road infrastructure remains a key concern for many citizens, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. This equipment should be put to maximum use to improve roads and provide better services to the people,” Prof. Kabudi said.
He said Ubungo’s initiative provides an important lesson for other councils, encouraging local authorities to explore sustainable approaches that allow them to respond quickly to infrastructure needs within their areas.
Prof. Kabudi also called on residents to protect the equipment, saying public assets play a critical role in improving service delivery and should be safeguarded for the benefit of current and future generations.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila said the investment demonstrates Ubungo District’s focus on projects that address citizens’ everyday challenges.
He said improved roads would contribute to easier movement of people and goods, while supporting business activities and improving the quality of life for residents.
Ubungo District Commissioner Albert Msando said the purchase of the equipment was aimed at boosting the district’s capacity to repair and maintain roads, reducing reliance on external support and speeding up responses to infrastructure challenges.
During the three-day tour, Prof. Kabudi also inspected the construction of the DMDP building in Ubungo and the Kizota Road project in Changanyikeni, Kinondoni District.
The visit follows President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive for ministers to regularly visit regions, inspect development projects and ensure government investments deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
