The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria has donated nine tonnes of educational equipment worth more than USD 600,000 to Ahmed Ben Bella Secondary School in Zanzibar, reaffirming its commitment to supporting education and strengthening the long standing ties of friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Tanzania.
The educational materials arrived in Zanzibar on July 13, 2026, aboard an Algerian aircraft and were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the school.
The event was officiated by the Ambassador of Algeria to Tanzania and attended by the Hon. Minister of Education and Vocational Training of Zanzibar.
Speaking ahead of the handover, the Ambassador said the donation represents Algeria's continued commitment to promoting education and enhancing the capacity of the school, while reflecting the historic bonds of friendship, fraternity, and solidarity between the two nations.
He noted that the initiative carries special symbolic significance as the school bears the name of Ahmed Ben Bella, one of the founding fathers of the Algerian Revolution, the first President of independent Algeria, and a close friend of Tanzania's founding President, the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
Following the ceremony, the Ambassador described the event as highly successful, highlighting the participation of the Hon. Minister of Education of Zanzibar and confirming that the donated educational equipment is valued at more than USD 600,000.
The donation further underscores the enduring partnership between Algeria and Tanzania and reflects Algeria's continued commitment to fostering cooperation, friendship, and educational development between the two brotherly nations.
