The State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) has emerged as one of Africa’s leading state-owned enterprises after securing two top honours at the Africa Company of the Year Awards (ACOYA), held in Dar es Salaam.
The glamorous ceremony, held on 12 June 2026 at Superdome in Oysterbay, brought together leading corporations from across Africa to recognize excellence in corporate performance, innovation, and institutional transformation.
STAMICO dominated the night, winning the National Corporation Mining of the Year Award as well as the Overall Winner of the ACOYA Awards, the highest accolade of the event.
The awards were received on behalf of Managing Director, Dr. Venance Mwasse, by the Corporation’s Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Mr. Deus Alex Ntukamazina.
Speaking after receiving the trophies, Ntukamazina said the recognition reflects the corporation’s ongoing transformation and its commitment to efficiency, accountability, and value creation in the mining sector.
He said the awards are a confirmation that reforms being implemented within the corporation are yielding tangible results.
“For STAMICO, this is a clear sign that the hard work and dedication invested in transforming the corporation into a more efficient and reliable mining entity is being recognized at continental level,” he said.
He attributed the success to strong strategic leadership under Dr. Mwasse, which has guided the corporation through operational expansion, improved productivity, and stronger engagement with both small-scale and large-scale miners.
Under this leadership, STAMICO has expanded its operational activities, strengthened its contribution to government revenue through dividends, and enhanced its role in supporting the development of Tanzania’s mining sector.
The back-to-back continental recognition further positions STAMICO as a benchmark for transformation among state-owned enterprises in Africa.
The achievement also highlights Tanzania’s growing presence and competitiveness in the continental mining industry, as STAMICO continues to reinforce its reputation as a rising corporate leader in the sector.
