Tanzania has underscored the importance of the Mattei Plan as a key strategic opportunity to strengthen cooperation with Italy and accelerate national development priorities.

This was said by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Said Shaib Mussa, during a high-level meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola, held at the Ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam on June 23, 2026.

The discussions focused on reviewing progress in the implementation of the Mattei Plan in Tanzania, which both sides view as a major platform for expanding practical cooperation in key development sectors.

The meeting brought together representatives from various government institutions to strengthen coordination and ensure that implementation of agreed initiatives is well aligned, efficient, and results-oriented.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Mussa said the Mattei Plan offers Tanzania a valuable opportunity to deepen bilateral relations with Italy while advancing development goals that directly benefit citizens.

He emphasized that strong coordination among implementing institutions is essential to ensure that the plan delivers real impact on the ground.

“This initiative is an important bridge for development cooperation, and its success depends on effective collaboration among all stakeholders,” he noted.

On his part, Ambassador Coppola stressed the need to speed up implementation of projects under the Mattei Plan, saying timely execution will help maximize benefits for both countries.

He also called for stronger coordination among stakeholders to improve efficiency and ensure that planned interventions translate into tangible development outcomes.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Tanzania–Italy relations through practical cooperation and effective implementation of development initiatives under the Mattei Plan, which is expected to contribute to inclusive growth and improved livelihoods.
