Tanzania pushes for stronger economic integration at EAC Finance Meeting in Arusha

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, led the Tanzanian delegation at the 18th Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council of Ministers on Finance and Economic Affairs held at the Permanent Secretaries’ level at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha.

The meeting brought together senior officials from EAC Partner States to deliberate on key issues aimed at strengthening regional economic cooperation and integration.

Discussions focused on the performance of macroeconomic indicators across member countries, including inflation trends, fiscal stability, and overall economic growth. 

The meeting also reviewed progress made in harmonizing economic policies to support trade and investment within the region.

The outcomes of the meeting will be submitted to the ministerial-level session for further discussion and policy decisions.

Dr. Mwamba was accompanied by senior government officials, including the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Elija Mwandumbya; the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa; and the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission responsible for national planning, Dr. Mursali Milanzi.

Other technical experts from the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation also participated in the meeting.

The discussions highlighted the importance of continued coordination among EAC Partner States in maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving fiscal discipline, and advancing shared economic growth across the region.
