Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has arrived in Mwanza where he is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the climax of the inaugural Lake Victoria Day celebrations, a major national event aimed at strengthening conservation efforts and sustainable management of the Lake Victoria Basin.

Dr Nchemba landed at Mwanza Airport and was warmly received by senior government leaders, including Mwanza Regional Commissioner Said Mtanda and Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso, alongside other regional and national officials.

The reception highlighted the importance the government places on the protection and sustainable use of Lake Victoria, a critical resource for millions of people in Tanzania and the wider East African region.

The main celebrations are set to take place at the Nanenane grounds in Nyamhongolo, Mwanza, where stakeholders from various sectors are expected to gather for discussions, exhibitions, and awareness activities focused on environmental conservation, water resource management, and sustainable development around the lake.

The event is being held under the theme: “Maji Yetu, Mustakabali Wetu: Tuungane kwa Uendelevu wa Bonde la Ziwa Victoria,” translated as “Our Water, Our Future: Let us Unite for the Sustainability of the Lake Victoria Basin,” emphasizing collective responsibility in safeguarding the lake for present and future generations.
