By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited TANESCO has announced a temporary disruption of electricity supply in several parts of the country following a fault in the national power grid.

In a public statement issued on April 19, 2026, TANESCO said the technical problem has affected electricity supply in multiple regions including Dodoma, Njombe, Mbeya, Simiyu, Ruvuma, Geita, Shinyanga, Mara, Mwanza, Tabora, Songwe, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Iringa and Katavi, as well as surrounding areas connected to the national grid.

The interruption began at around 11:38 in the morning, causing a sudden loss of power that disrupted normal activities in homes, businesses, and public services across the affected regions.

TANESCO said its technical teams have already been deployed and are working to identify the exact cause of the fault and restore electricity services as quickly as possible.

The company added that repair efforts are ongoing and that power restoration will be done gradually as sections of the grid are stabilized.

The utility provider has urged customers to remain patient while engineers continue with the restoration process.

It also reassured the public that every effort is being made to ensure power is restored safely and in the shortest time possible.

TANESCO has apologized for the inconvenience caused and promised to continue providing updates as work progresses.
