The Minerals Commission of Tabora Region has played a key role in the official launch of Community Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in Igunga District, aimed at improving education and access to clean water for local communities.

The event was officially opened by the District Commissioner of Igunga, Sauda S. Mtondoo, and attended by government leaders, mining sector stakeholders, and residents.

The newly launched projects include the construction of a classroom and a teachers’ office at Mkwabi Primary School, as well as the installation of water tanks in Nanga Village.

These initiatives are set to create a better learning environment for students and ensure communities have access to safe, clean water, directly improving the quality of life for residents.

Implemented by TAUR TANZANIA LTD at a cost of TZS 50 million for the 2024/2025 financial year, the projects form part of the company’s CSR commitments under Tanzania’s mining laws and guidelines.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nehemia Mudala, the Resident Mining Officer for Tabora Region, urged mining companies to continue prioritizing CSR investments in villages surrounding mining operations.

He also highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability, and proper maintenance of project infrastructure to guarantee long-term benefits for communities.

Mtondoo praised TAUR TANZANIA LTD and mining sector stakeholders for their contributions to the social and economic development of Igunga residents.

She stressed that strong collaboration between government, private sector, and communities is vital to ensure that development efforts are inclusive and sustainable.

The Minerals Commission’s involvement underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging the mining sector as a partner in community development, ensuring that CSR projects bring meaningful and lasting benefits to local residents.
