Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Msafiri Mbibo, has stressed that public servants must embrace innovation in their work environment to boost efficiency, accountability, and results.

He emphasized that innovation is not a luxury, but a key driver of productivity, especially in the face of rapid technological and environmental changes.

Mbibo made the remarks during an official visit to review mining activities in Simiyu Region on 29 December 2025.

He called on officials of the Regional Mining Office (RMO) to prioritize creative approaches as a way to enhance government revenue collection.

“Innovation in the workplace is not a luxury; it is a requirement for improving efficiency, productivity, and ultimately achieving government objectives, including revenue targets,” he said, commending the Simiyu RMO for consistently meeting annual collection goals and fostering a strong team spirit.

He also praised the good working relationship between RMO staff and mining stakeholders in the region, describing the collaboration as vital for managing mining activities transparently, responsibly, and in the national interest.

Simiyu Regional Resident Mining Officer, Engineer Mayigi Makolobela, reported that the region’s target for the 2025/2026 financial year is TZS 4.76 billion.

By 24 December 2025, the office had collected TZS 2.32 billion, representing 49.32% of the annual goal, with high hopes of reaching the full target by the end of the financial year.

RMO staff expressed appreciation for the regular visits of senior government officials, saying these inspections provide guidance, reinforce operational principles, and prepare them to handle challenges arising from global technological advancements.

The visit is expected to further motivate staff, strengthen workplace innovation, enhance collaboration, and increase the mining sector’s contribution to government revenue and national development.
