Bishop Akyoo urges Tanzanians to protect peace ahead of 2025 polls

The Founder and Presiding Bishop of Bethel Calvary Churches in Tanzania, Bishop Dr. Willy Akyoo, has called on Tanzanians to safeguard peace at all costs, describing it as the bridge to justice and a key pillar for national unity and sustainable development.

Speaking to reporters in Meru, Arusha, ahead of the October 29, 2025 General Election, Bishop Akyoo said peace provides the foundation for legal and social systems to function effectively in delivering justice and services to the people.

“The importance of peace in Tanzania has been a subject of debate for years. Some believe there can be no peace without justice, while others insist peace is the fruit of justice,” he said. “But I believe peace is the bridge to justice. When peace exists, it creates the right environment for justice to prevail. Without peace, there can be no justice, because the person holding your rights cannot be approached or reasoned with in the absence of peace.”

Bishop Akyoo cited biblical teachings that urge believers to pursue peace with diligence and to live in harmony with others.

He urged young people not to be misled into engaging in activities that could disrupt the country’s peace, warning that doing so could jeopardise their future.

He further appealed to the youth to actively participate in the coming elections, saying voting is the first step towards taking ownership of their country’s future and addressing their own challenges.

“Voting is an act of empowerment,” he said. “I encourage all eligible Tanzanians, especially the youth, to turn out in large numbers on October 29, 2025, and elect leaders who will protect peace, promote justice, and drive national development.”

Bishop Akyoo concluded by stressing that peace is a national treasure that every citizen must protect.

“Through unity, dialogue, and mutual respect, Tanzania will continue to stand firm as a beacon of peace and justice,” he said.
