The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has directed the management of the Chuini Market to ensure the promotion of cleanliness and improvement of the business environment, enabling traders to conduct their activities in officially designated areas.
Speaking today, September 4, 2025, during the official inauguration of the Chuini Modern Market and Bus Terminal in Magharibi A District, Urban West Region, Dr. Mwinyi commended the quality work done by the contractor and supervisors in the construction of the modern market.
He also issued seven directives to the managers and relevant authorities to maintain the dignity and proper management of markets.
These include strengthening hygiene inside and outside the markets, preventing traders from operating in undesignated roadside areas, and offering favorable tax conditions to support traders.
Dr. Mwinyi further instructed that regular renovations be conducted to maintain the markets in good condition, and that traders should be encouraged to occupy their designated stalls early to ensure business activities thrive.
He also ordered the newly built bus terminal adjacent to the market to commence operations immediately, providing easy access for citizens while supporting infrastructure development in the area.
Additionally, the President emphasized the role of financial institutions in providing loans to entrepreneurs, enabling them to expand their businesses and contribute to poverty reduction.
Dr. Mwinyi assured citizens that the government will continue to construct modern markets in areas including Mombasa, Kibanda Maiti, and Malindi, alongside modern bus terminals and shops.
In his closing remarks, the President reminded politicians, religious leaders, and citizens of the importance of safeguarding peace and unity as the nation heads toward the General Election.
The Chuini Modern Market, constructed by the Fire and Rescue Force contractor, comprises 98 shops, a vehicle parking area, warehouses, and 26 toilets.
