The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT-Wazalendo) will not field candidates for the offices of President or Vice President in Tanzania’s 2025 general election.

The announcement follows the party’s manifesto launch on September 21, 2025, at its headquarters, which was followed by a parliamentary campaign launch in Segerea constituency.

During the events, ACT-Wazalendo indicated that Luhaga Joelson Mpina and Fatma Abdulhabib Ferej would appear as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

INEC clarified that the party has no official candidates for the top offices after Mpina’s nomination was annulled on September 15, 2025, following objections from the Attorney General’s office.

Both the party and the former candidate were formally notified of the Commission’s decision.

Political analysts say ACT-Wazalendo’s absence from the presidential race could influence voter alignment and campaign strategies, potentially consolidating support for other contenders.

INEC stressed that any claims by the party regarding presidential and vice-presidential candidates are incorrect and have no legal standing.
