Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has urged the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) to step up efforts in recognizing and rewarding engineers who excel in their work, saying such incentives will boost professionalism and motivate engineers to deliver quality results.

Speaking at the 22nd Tanzania Engineers’ Day celebrations under the theme “Engineers’ Responsibility Towards the National Development Vision 2050,” Dr. Biteko stressed that acknowledging top performers would show that their contributions are valued.

“I urge the Board to initiate new ways to reward engineers who manage projects with excellence. Use events like today to publicly recognize and award them. This will inspire others to work harder and strive for excellence,” Dr. Biteko said.

He added that the government will continue supporting engineers as they play a critical role in driving national development through innovation and technical expertise.

He also called on engineers to uphold integrity and ethical standards to elevate the profession’s dignity.

Minister of Construction, Abdallah Ulega, said the ministry, through ERB, is committed to improving professional environments for engineers and providing hands-on training through the Graduate Engineer Training Program (SEAP).

He noted that local engineers are actively involved in strategic projects including the SGR railway, oil pipelines, roads, bridges, airports, water, and electricity projects to enhance their skills.

ERB Board Chairman, Engineer Menye Manga, revealed that the Board has registered 44,000 engineers and 3,445 technical craftsmen, noting that the numbers remain insufficient for the country’s development needs.

The celebrations, which drew more than 4,000 engineers from Tanzania and abroad, also saw 400 engineers take their professional oath and marked the launch of the ERB Mhandisi App, designed to give engineers easy access to professional updates and information nationwide.
