The Attorney General’s Office has expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction at the Kidunda Dam, highlighting the importance of legal and contractual guidance in ensuring timely and effective project delivery.

The office, which plays a crucial advisory role in national development initiatives, visited the site to assess progress and engage with project managers on potential challenges that could affect implementation.

The Kidunda Dam, with a total investment of TZS 335 billion, is scheduled for completion by June 2026.

Upon completion, the dam is expected to strengthen water supply services in Dar es Salaam and Coastal regions.

Additionally, it will contribute 20 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, supporting Tanzania’s efforts to expand energy access and enhance regional economic development.

Deputy Attorney General Kisamo Fredrick, who led the delegation, emphasized the office’s strategic role in supporting government projects.

He noted that the office is not only responsible for reviewing contracts but also for proactively identifying legal and operational risks that could delay project execution.

“We are grateful to DAWASA for keeping us closely informed. Our mandate is to provide advice on contractual and other legal matters to ensure projects progress smoothly and meet deadlines,” he said.

Kisamo added that challenges identified in ongoing implementation have been carefully noted, and the office will work with relevant ministries and agencies to mitigate risks.

By engaging early in project execution, the office aims to prevent bottlenecks and support measures that ensure timely completion.

DAWASA Project Manager, Engineer Christian Christopher, welcomed the Attorney General’s Office visit, describing it as a critical opportunity for collaboration.

He explained that legal oversight helps the project identify potential technical and operational issues before they escalate into delays.

“Their guidance is invaluable. We take their advice seriously and have begun implementing corrective measures immediately,” Christopher said.

The Kidunda Dam is a multi-purpose project, designed not only to provide water and energy but also to stimulate local development through job creation and improved agricultural irrigation.

Its successful completion will therefore be a benchmark for government-led infrastructure initiatives, demonstrating the importance of coordinated oversight, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive legal support in national development projects.
