Muhimbili National Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Delilah Kimambo, on Saturday made her first official visit to the Mental Health Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy Village (Vikuruti) in Chamanzi, Temeke, Dar es Salaam, where she met with staff, assessed service delivery, and discussed plans for improving infrastructure and patient care.

Dr. Kimambo praised the commitment of health workers at the facility, which operates as part of Muhimbili National Hospital, noting that their dedication has made Vikuruti a leading centre for mental health rehabilitation in Tanzania.

“I commend you for the great work you are doing and the spirit of commitment that makes this village outstanding,” she told staff. “I urge you to maintain this momentum and strengthen infrastructure so that services can continue to be delivered more efficiently.”

Her visit also shed light on a new development project for Vikuruti, which is expected to commence soon through a collaboration between Muhimbili and a private investor.

The project aims to expand facilities, improve working conditions, and provide better care for patients in need of long-term rehabilitation.

Dr. Kimambo’s engagement with frontline workers was seen as a strong signal of the hospital’s commitment to enhancing mental health services, an area often underfunded despite growing demand.

She assured staff that the leadership of Muhimbili is determined to invest in infrastructure and support systems to ensure that patients at Vikuruti continue to receive quality care.
