Minister Ulega invites Geita, Kagera residents to Bridge opening

Mwanza — Abdallah Ulega, Tanzania’s Minister of Works and Transport, has confirmed the completion of the JP Magufuli Bridge, also known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, and extended an official invitation to residents of the Geita and Kagera regions to attend its inauguration ceremony scheduled for June 19, 2025, in Mwanza.

Speaking at the Geita Regional Commissioner’s office, Minister Ulega highlighted that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan will serve as the chief guest at the high-profile event. 

He urged communities from both regions, the primary beneficiaries of the infrastructure project, to participate actively in the launch.

“President Samia has delivered a landmark project that will transform connectivity in the Lake Zone and across Tanzania. We encourage all stakeholders to join this historic occasion in large numbers,” Minister Ulega said.

Acting Regional Commissioner Fatma Mwassa, who also oversees Kagera, confirmed that preparations are underway to ensure strong attendance from both regions. She commended Minister Ulega’s effective oversight of multiple infrastructure developments currently underway in the Lake Zone.

Nicholas Kasendamila, Chairman of the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party in Geita, emphasized the community’s enthusiasm to thank the President for enhancing regional integration and cross-border connectivity.

Minister Ulega is conducting a regional tour to monitor progress on ongoing infrastructure projects across the Lake Zone, underscoring the government’s commitment to accelerating Tanzania’s development agenda.
