Kilatu joins Kaliua parliamentary race, vows economic transformation

Denis Kilatu has declared his intention to run for Member of Parliament in Kaliua constituency, collecting nomination forms on June 29, 2025, ahead of the upcoming general election.

Speaking shortly after submitting his intent, Mr Kilatu said his decision was driven by a strong desire to champion inclusive economic growth, improve public services, and promote social cohesion within the constituency.

“Kaliua generates the highest local revenue in Tabora Region, yet this success is not reflected in the livelihoods of our people. We must ensure our economic potential benefits everyone,” he said.

Mr Kilatu said he plans to collaborate with ward councillors to ensure local revenue is strategically invested in both small- and large-scale industries. His goal, he said, is to boost job creation and build a sustainable economic base that benefits residents across the district.

Unity within the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party will also be among his priorities. “We must strengthen party unity, eliminate internal divisions, and honour the legacy of CCM’s founders by working together with respect and purpose,” he noted.

On youth empowerment, the aspiring MP promised to support initiatives aimed at job creation and self-employment, including training programmes and mentorship seminars to equip young people with business and entrepreneurial skills.

In terms of infrastructure, Mr Kilatu pledged to advocate for improvements in roads, water supply, healthcare and education.

He cited the stalled economic corridor road linking Katavi (Mpanda), Kaliua, and Kahama, which has remained at the feasibility study stage for over 20 years, as a top priority.

He also promised to push for the construction of CCM offices in the constituency, saying this would help strengthen party activities and preserve its history.

Mr Kilatu further committed to ensuring fair and transparent access to the 10 percent of local council funds allocated to women, youth and persons with disabilities.

He said he would also promote peaceful solutions to land-use conflicts between farmers and pastoralists by establishing regular dialogue forums.
