Dar es Salaam Athletics Association elections scheduled for July 31

The Dar es Salaam Athletics Association (DAA) has officially reopened the nomination process for its upcoming leadership elections, now set for July 31, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.

Originally planned for June 28, 2025, the elections were postponed following concerns raised by several candidates over decisions made by the previous electoral committee. In response, the electoral process has been restarted under a newly appointed committee.

Speaking on June 30, 2025, the Chairman of the DAA Electoral Committee, Mr. Juma Ikangaa, confirmed that nomination forms are now available for collection and submission from June 30 until July 11, 2025.

“This committee has been reconstituted by the Office of the Dar es Salaam Regional Administrative Secretary, and we have officially resumed the nomination process,” said Mr. Ikangaa.

“Eligible candidates must be residents of Dar es Salaam and are invited to collect, complete, and return the nomination forms within the stipulated timeframe. Following this, we will conduct candidate screening, publish the approved list, handle any objections, and facilitate the campaigning period leading up to the elections.”he added

Mr. Ikangaa further explained that candidates who had collected forms under the previous process are required to collect new forms but will not need to pay again unless changing the position they wish to contest.

“For instance, if a candidate initially applied for a committee member role but now wishes to run for a senior leadership position, an additional fee will be required. However, if a candidate moves from a senior position to a lower one, no refunds will be issued,” he clarified. “All candidates, whether new or returning, will undergo the same vetting procedures.”

The available positions include Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary, and Treasurer, each requiring a nomination fee of TSh 20,000. Candidates for committee member roles will pay a fee of TSh 10,000.

Committee member Mr. Morris Okinda urged candidates to thoroughly study the DAA constitution and electoral guidelines to ensure compliance and prevent disputes during the election.

“Many aspirants rush to submit nomination forms without understanding the constitution or rules governing the election process. We encourage all candidates to familiarize themselves with these regulations to minimize grievances and ensure a smooth election,” Mr. Okinda advised.
