Through the National Integrated Program for Early Childhood Development (PJT-MMMAM), the Government of Tanzania has successfully established 206 community-based day care centers for young children and registered 4,178 private centers nationwide since 2021.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, Mwanza Regional Commissioner Husein Mtanda noted that these community centers currently serve a total of 11,675 children, while the private centers provide care for 6,154 children.
In support of quality service delivery, 445 caregivers have been trained in early childhood care and development.
Mtanda emphasized that investing in early childhood development is a critical foundation for building a productive and capable human resource base, benefiting both families and the nation as a whole.
Representing the Deputy Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Community Development, Mr. Sebastian Kitiku highlighted that the ongoing two-day review meeting brings together Nutrition Officers from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, along with development partners, to assess progress and address implementation challenges of the PJT-MMMAM program.
Assistant Director for Social Welfare Services, Ms. Subisya Kabuje, reaffirmed that participants are committed to identifying practical and innovative approaches to enhance the effective implementation of the program.
