The Board of Trustees of the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) continued its 210th official meeting today, May 24, 2025, in Mwanza, with a focus on critical issues concerning conservation, tourism development, and investment opportunities.

The three-day session, which began on May 22, is being chaired by General (Retired) George Marwa Waitara.

“This meeting underscores our commitment to strengthening TANAPA’s mission not only in safeguarding our natural heritage but also in promoting sustainable tourism and investment that benefit local communities and the nation at large,” said Gen. Waitara.

Ahead of the full board meeting, three specialized committees convened to deliberate on key strategic areas.

The Tourism and Corporate Services Committee, chaired by Mr. Athumani Kwariko, focused on enhancing service delivery and tourism infrastructure.

The Audit and Administration Committee, led by CPA (T) Hadija Ramadhani, reviewed governance and financial oversight matters.

Meanwhile, the Conservation Committee, chaired by Dr. Robert Fyumagwa, addressed ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and ecosystems within TANAPA’s jurisdiction.

“Our conservation work is rooted in science and guided by a vision to ensure that Tanzania’s rich biodiversity is preserved for future generations,” noted Dr. Fyumagwa.

TANAPA currently manages 21 national parks across the country, playing a vital role in environmental protection, economic development, and international tourism.

The 210th board meeting serves as a platform for strategic reflection and planning to ensure the continued success of this national mandate.
