CRDB Bank Burundi has turned its annual marathon into a platform for raising awareness and mobilising support for communities struggling to access clean and safe water, drawing hundreds of runners and members of the public onto the streets of Bujumbura on Sunday.
Held under the theme “Un pas, de l’eau pour tous” (One Step, Water for All), the third edition of the CRDB Marathon brought together runners, customers, employees, business partners and members of the public in a campaign aimed at supporting efforts to improve access to safe water.
The event was attended by Burundi’s First Lady, Angeline Ndayishimiye, who commended CRDB Bank Burundi for using sport to promote social responsibility and mobilise communities around issues affecting people’s wellbeing.
“I support initiatives that bring citizens together around issues aimed at improving their lives. We must continue working together to support different communities across Burundi,” she said.
Ms Ndayishimiye urged stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in addressing challenges affecting communities and to support initiatives that can contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens.
CRDB Bank Burundi said the campaign has brought together financial contributions, sponsorships, partnerships and public participation, with the collective effort directed towards improving access to clean and safe water for communities in need.
The initiative also seeks to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen social solidarity and encourage greater citizen participation in initiatives addressing community challenges.
The marathon is part of CRDB Bank Burundi’s broader efforts to use sport as a vehicle for social impact, bringing together different groups around causes that contribute to community development.
As the third edition held in Burundi, the event attracted participants from different backgrounds, reinforcing its role not only as a sporting occasion but also as a platform for promoting collective action on social and development issues.
CRDB Bank Burundi thanked runners, sponsors, partners, customers, employees and other stakeholders for supporting the campaign, reaffirming its commitment to initiatives that generate positive social impact and contribute to sustainable development in Burundi.
