Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr Bashiru Ally Kakurwa, has challenged the National Ranching Company (NARCO) to address operational challenges and position itself for greater productivity, investment and profitability.
Dr Kakurwa made the call on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when he met NARCO’s Board of Directors in Dodoma to review the company’s performance and discuss measures to strengthen its operations.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the minister to receive the board’s views, recommendations and advice on challenges facing NARCO and possible solutions to improve its financial and operational performance.
Particular attention was placed on how NARCO can enhance livestock production and attract investment while improving the management of government-owned ranches and livestock grazing blocks.
The minister’s engagement comes amid government efforts to make better use of public assets and strengthen the livestock sector’s contribution to economic growth.
NARCO plays a key role in managing government ranches and supporting livestock production, making its performance important to efforts to expand Tanzania’s livestock industry and investment opportunities.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries conference hall in Mtumba Government City, Dodoma.
It brought together NARCO board members and senior ministry officials, including Permanent Secretary Agnes Meena, Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for the livestock sector Dr Fabian Madele, Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for fisheries Prof Mohamed Sheikh, and Director of Administration and Human Resources Management Dr Charles Mhina.
The discussions are expected to inform measures aimed at improving NARCO’s efficiency, strengthening livestock production and unlocking the commercial potential of government-owned ranching resources.
