President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, has officially opened the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, calling for strengthened economic cooperation between Mozambique and Tanzania to accelerate trade, investment and inclusive development across the two countries.
The opening ceremony, held on July 3, 2026 at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere grounds in Kurasini, Dar es Salaam, brought together President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, senior government leaders, private sector stakeholders, investors and international business representatives, marking a milestone 50th edition of the long-standing trade exhibition.
President Chapo said Tanzania and Mozambique share historic bonds of friendship and solidarity, adding that the time has come to translate that relationship into stronger economic gains through expanded cross-border trade, joint industrial investments and improved infrastructure connectivity.
He noted that deeper cooperation between the two nations would not only enhance bilateral trade but also position the Southern African region as a more competitive and integrated economic bloc.
“we must turn our historical friendship into practical economic opportunities that directly benefit our people,” he emphasized.
On her part, President Samia Suluhu Hassan said Tanzania remains committed to advancing economic diplomacy as a key driver for attracting investment, expanding trade and strengthening regional partnerships.
She said the government has continued to implement reforms aimed at improving the business and investment environment to enable the private sector to play a greater role in driving economic growth, industrialization and job creation.
President Samia further stressed that the Tanzania–Mozambique partnership should continue to focus on delivering tangible benefits to citizens through joint initiatives in key sectors including trade, energy, transport infrastructure, manufacturing and tourism.
She also expressed appreciation to President Chapo for accepting the invitation to officiate the historic 50th edition of the fair, noting its significance in strengthening bilateral relations.
She highlighted that the 1999 edition was officiated by former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, while the 2024 edition was opened by former President Filipe Nyusi, underscoring the continuity of cooperation between the two nations.
