The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to listening to taxpayers and addressing tax-related challenges promptly in order to improve the business environment, attract investment, and support national economic growth.

The commitment was made on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Dar es Salaam by TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda during discussions with the Managing Director of Twiga Cement PLC, Alfonso Velez.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Tanzania Revenue Authority and large taxpayers, as well as reviewing key issues related to tax administration and compliance.

Mwenda said TRA continues to view dialogue with taxpayers as a central part of building an efficient and transparent tax system. He noted that effective communication between the authority and taxpayers helps to reduce disputes, improve compliance, and create a more predictable tax environment for businesses.

He added that TRA is committed to ensuring that concerns raised by taxpayers are addressed within reasonable timeframes, emphasizing that responsiveness is critical for sustaining trust and improving the overall investment climate in the country.

During the talks, both sides exchanged views on how to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in areas of tax administration efficiency, compliance improvement, and information sharing.

They agreed on the importance of maintaining continuous engagement to ensure that the tax system remains supportive of business operations while also safeguarding government revenue.

On his part, Velez welcomed TRA’s approach of maintaining regular engagement with taxpayers and stakeholders.

He said the continued dialogue has helped improve understanding of tax requirements and strengthened relations between the private sector and the tax authority.

He noted that predictable and transparent communication from tax authorities is key in supporting long-term business planning and investment decisions.

The discussions took place as TRA marks 30 years since its establishment. The anniversary is being observed under the theme “Three Decades of TRA, The Taxpayer is a Hero, A Self-Reliant Tanzania,” reflecting the authority’s role in revenue collection and national development over the past three decades.
