Hussein Ali Mwinyi has pledged to accelerate the implementation of major development projects, including the construction of modern roads, as the Zanzibar government pushes ahead with plans to transform the Isles into a modern and competitive economy.

Speaking during a special thanksgiving meeting with CCM leaders and members from Mjini Kichama Region on May 9, 2026, Dr Mwinyi said the government was determined to fast-track strategic infrastructure projects aimed at improving transport, public services and living standards for wananchi.

The meeting was held at the CCM Amani Regional Hall in Urban West Region as part of his post-election appreciation tour following the 2025 General Election.

Dr Mwinyi, who also serves as CCM Vice Chairman for Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, said large-scale development projects remain central to Zanzibar’s economic transformation agenda.

He noted that improved infrastructure, particularly modern roads, would help open up economic opportunities, support trade and tourism, and improve connectivity across the Isles.

The Zanzibar leader also used the meeting to call for unity within CCM, urging members to put aside political groupings that emerged during the election period.

He said strengthening cohesion within the ruling party was important for maintaining stability and ensuring effective implementation of development priorities.

Dr Mwinyi urged MPs, representatives and councillors to play a leading role in reuniting party members and strengthening cooperation at grassroots level.

On the party’s financial sustainability, he said CCM must continue building a strong and self-reliant economic base through productive and modern investment projects capable of supporting the party’s operations and long-term goals.

He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers, retirees and elderly citizens, while continuing to expand access to essential social services.

Dr Mwinyi is currently undertaking a special tour of Unguja and Pemba to thank CCM members for their support during the 2025 General Election.
