The Minister for Home Affairs, Paschal Katambi Patrobass, has announced eight major priorities that will guide the Ministry in the 2026/27 financial year, focusing on strengthening national security, improving service delivery, and modernizing the country’s security systems.

Presenting the Ministry’s budget estimates for revenue and expenditure, Katambi said the government is committed to continuing reforms aimed at making security institutions more efficient, responsive, and aligned with current technological changes.

He noted that the priorities are intended to improve working conditions for security officers, enhance coordination among security agencies, and ensure better protection of citizens and their property.

One of the key priorities is improving infrastructure for security organs. The government will construct and renovate residential and office facilities for officers, inspectors, and other staff under the Ministry to improve morale and working efficiency.

The second priority focuses on improving availability of working tools and equipment. This includes strengthening transport and logistics systems to enable security agencies to respond quickly and effectively to incidents.

The third area is strengthening security research. The Ministry will conduct studies to better understand emerging crime trends and develop preventive strategies to address new and evolving security challenges.

The fourth priority is enhancing the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across all services. This will improve efficiency, transparency, and speed in delivering services to citizens.

The fifth priority is continuous training for staff and security officers. The government aims to build professionalism and capacity through regular training programmes to improve performance and service delivery.

The sixth priority involves key development projects under the National Identification Authority (NIDA)

These include construction of the NIDA headquarters in Dodoma, establishment of 31 district registration offices, and a modern ICT training and equipment maintenance centre in Kibaha.

The seventh priority is the construction of safe houses for victims of human trafficking in Dar es Salaam. The initiative is aimed at protecting survivors and strengthening support systems for vulnerable groups.

The eighth priority focuses on strengthening income-generating activities within the Ministry. These include agriculture, livestock keeping, and small-scale industries, alongside efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable use of resources.

Katambi said the priorities reflect the government’s continued efforts to build a modern, efficient, and citizen-focused security system that responds to current challenges while improving service delivery across the country.
