The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has donated various items to three centres caring for children with special needs in Dar es Salaam as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable groups in the community.
The outreach programme, conducted on March 19, 2026, involved visits to selected centres that provide care and support to orphaned and vulnerable children, where the power utility offered essential supplies to help improve the children’s welfare.
Speaking during the visit on behalf of the Managing Director, TANESCO’s Acting Director of Communication and Customer Service, Ms Irene Gowelle, said the initiative reflects the company’s continued commitment to giving back to society, particularly by supporting children with special needs.
She noted that the assistance was intended not only to address basic needs but also to inspire hope and confidence among the children, encouraging them to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they face.
“Through this initiative, TANESCO has joined the children with special needs and shared various donations as part of our effort to give back to the community and strengthen our social responsibility,” she said.
Ms Gowelle added that the company will continue working closely with surrounding communities as part of its broader efforts to contribute to building a caring and inclusive society.
The founder of Umra Orphanage Center, Ms Rahma Juma, commended TANESCO for the support, saying the donations had arrived at a crucial time and would help improve the care provided to the children.
She said the visit by TANESCO had brought joy and renewed hope to the children, noting that many centres supporting vulnerable children continue to face a range of operational challenges.
“The support provided by TANESCO is a good example for other organisations to emulate. The assistance has come at the right time and will help us greatly in taking care of the children here,” she said.
Similarly, Ms Nuru Mwegoha expressed gratitude to TANESCO for the donations, saying the items would help meet some of the centres’ daily needs.
“We sincerely thank TANESCO for visiting us and for the support they have provided. These donations have come at the right time, especially during this festive season, and include items that are important for our everyday needs,” she said.
She also called on institutions, companies and individuals to step forward and support vulnerable groups to ensure they receive proper care and live with hope for a better future.
The centres visited during the programme were Umra Orphanage Center in Magomeni, CHAKUWAMA Orphanage Center in Sinza Mori and New Hope for Girls Organization in Kimara.
