The National Sports Council (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to advance Tanzania’s sports sector.
NSC’s Sports Development Manager, Benson Chacha, made the remarks on March 11, 2026, during a farewell meeting with JICA representative Sumiko Asano, who recently concluded her service in Tanzania.
Chacha thanked Asano for her pivotal role in implementing various sports development programs, including the “Ladies First” athletics competition for women, which has significantly encouraged female participation in sports.
He highlighted that JICA has long been a key partner in Tanzania’s sports development through initiatives such as the sports expert exchange program.
This allows Tanzanian professionals to receive training in Japan while Japanese experts visit Tanzania to support local development.
The collaboration with Nagai City, Japan, has also borne fruit, with four Tanzanian sports professionals benefiting from a seven-year experience-sharing program, enhancing their skills and contributing to national efforts to develop sports across the country.
