The dairy sector in Tanzania has received a significant boost following the launch of a three-day specialized training for dairy inspectors in Morogoro.
The training brings together inspectors from Morogoro, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tanga, and Coast regions, with the goal of strengthening the quality, safety, and competitiveness of dairy products in both local and international markets.
Officially opening the training on March 23, 2026, at Savoy Hall in Morogoro, the Registrar of the Tanzania Dairy Board, Prof. George Msalya, emphasized the importance of equipping inspectors with modern skills to effectively manage milk quality standards from production to consumption.
He noted that the government remains committed to investing in professional capacity building to safeguard public health and enhance the value of locally produced milk.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Morogoro Regional Livestock Officer Mr. David Mahimbo highlighted that the training comes at a critical time when the region is expanding its milk production.
He added that well-trained inspectors will play a key role in ensuring quality control, boosting consumer confidence, and expanding market opportunities for dairy products.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mariam Kingu, representing the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued collaboration with the Tanzania Dairy Board in advancing the sector through policies, guidelines, and training initiatives.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Director of the Department of Production and Marketing Development (DPMD), she stressed the need for inspectors to uphold professionalism and integrity to ensure that milk reaching consumers meets safety and quality standards.
The training is expected to enhance inspectors’ knowledge in areas such as quality control, milk safety, and regulatory compliance.
This initiative marks a vital step toward sustainable growth in the dairy sector, a key contributor to Tanzania’s national economy.
